Beneficial effect of a statin-like drug in diet-induced insulin resistance in female rats.
We studied the effect of atorvastatin, a synthetic statin, on high-fat diet-induced insulin resistance in female rats. Four groups of female Wistar rats were fed with normal (10% kcal from fat) or high (60% kcal from fat) fat diets for 1, 4, 12 or 18 weeks. The rats were divided into 3 groups according to the atorvastatin dose (0, 5 or 50 mg/kg/day) and duration (3 or 9 weeks). Atorvastatin dose-dependently improved the body weight gain and glucose metabolism, and atorvastatin administration for 3 weeks prevented the development of hyperlipidemia and improved insulin sensitivity in a high-fat diet-fed female rat model.I’ve just finished reading William Gibson’s novel Neuromancer and for anyone who hasn’t read it, go out and buy it, it’s incredible.

We seem to be moving towards a time when kids of the last generation will develop as adults in the next. That generation of people will develop as a whole new generation.
