Python check_output and subprocess.check_output
I have a very simple question about checking out the return value from subprocess.check_output and from subprocess.check_output().
I have an example where I need to run a ping command. The best way that I've found to run a ping command is using subprocess.check_output(["ping", "-c 1", "www.google.com"]). I'm testing this locally and testing it with the -c 1 because I only want to ping a single address.
Here's my question. If I use subprocess.check_output([ping -c 1 www.google.com]) and if the subprocess doesn't return the correct value, I will not know whether or not the call to subprocess.check_output() actually ran. This can be seen in the example below:
Subprocess.check_output([ping -c 1 www.google.com])
# Subprocess.check_output() runs and returns the correct value.
subprocess.check_output([ping -c 1 www.google.com])
# If the subprocess.check_output() call doesn't return the correct value,
# I would assume that the subprocess.check_output() call failed.
My question is this: can I trust that if subprocess.check_output ac619d1d87
